German-French-Italian-English dictionary of plant names and technical terms used in the NFI. Definitions are given for the terms highlighted in yellow.

  • main tree species

    Term used for the ten most important native tree species or genuses: spruce (Picea abies), silver fir (Abies alba), pine (Pinus sylvestris, P. nigra, P. mugo), larch (Larix decidua, L. kaempferi), arolla pine (Pinus cembra), beech (Fagus sylvatica), maple (Acer pseudoplatanus, A. platanoides), ash (Fraxinus excelsior, F. ornus), oak (Quercus robur, Q. petraea, Q. cerris, Q. pubescens,Q. rubra) and chestnut (Castanea sativa). All of the remaining tree species are referenced as "other conifers" or alternatively "other broadleaves".

    Bezeichnung für die zehn wichtigsten einheimischen Baumarten oder Baumgattungen: Fichte (Picea abies), Tanne (Abies alba), Föhren (Pinus sylvestris, P. nigra, P. mugo), Lärchen (Larix decidua, L. kaempferi), Arve (Pinus cembra), Buche (Fagus sylvatica), Ahorne (Acer pseudoplatanus, A. platanoides), Eschen (Fraxinus excelsior, F. ornus), Eichen (Quercus robur, Q. petraea, Q. cerris, Q. pubescens, Q. rubra) und Kastanie (Castanea sativa). Alle übrigen Baumarten werden als übrige Nadelbäume bzw. übrige Laubbäume zusammengefasst.

    Désignation des dix principales essences ou genres autochtones : épicéa (Picea abies), sapin (Abies alba), pins (Pinus sylvestris, P. nigra, P. mugo), mélèzes (Larix decidua, L. kaempferi), arole (Pinus cembra), hêtre (Fagus sylvatica), érables (Acer pseudoplatanus, A. platanoides), frênes (Fraxinus excelsior, F. ornus), chênes (Quercus robur, Q. petraea, Q. cerris, Q. pubescens, Q. rubra) et châtaignier (Castanea sativa). Les autres essences sont rassemblées sous la dénomination autres résineux ou autres feuillus.

    Designazione attribuita alle dieci più importanti specie arboree o generi arborei indigeni: abete rosso (Picea abies), abete bianco (Abies alba), pini (Pinus sylverstris, P. nigra, P. mugo), larici (Larix decidua, L. kaempferi), pino cembro (Pinus cembra), faggio (Fagus sylvatica), aceri (Acer pseudoplatanus, A. platanoides), frassini (Fraxinus excelsior, F. ornus), querce (Quercus robur, Q. petraea, Q. cerris, Q. pubescens, Q. rubra) e castagno (Castanea sativa). Tutte le altre specie vengono raggruppate e indicate rispettivamente come altre conifere oppure altre latifoglie.

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
