Dictionary/Glossary

German-French-Italian-English dictionary of plant names and technical terms used in the NFI. Definitions are given for the terms highlighted in yellow.

• high forest

  Forest type where the trees are mainly standards, i.e. produced through sexual reproduction (from seedlings). See NFI2 Field Manual p. 144.
• [de] Hochwald
  Waldform, bei der die Bäume überwiegend Kernwüchse sind, d.h. durch generative Vermehrung (aus Samen) entstanden, vgl. Anl. LFI, S. 144.
• [fr] futaie
  Forme de forêt dans laquelle les arbres sont principalement issus de francs-pieds, c'est-à-dire par multiplication générative (de graines)
• [it] fustaia
  Forma di governo nella quale gli alberi sono per la maggior parte a piede franco, vale a dire originati da seme (riproduzione gamica)

• The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
• The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
