German-French-Italian-English dictionary of plant names and technical terms used in the NFI. Definitions are given for the terms highlighted in yellow.

• slenderness

  Ratio of tree height to diameter at breast height. The mean slenderness of the dominant trees is a key measure for describing the state of a stand in response to the stand's treatment and stand stability against wind and snow (according to WT).
• [de] Schlankheitsgrad
  Verhältnis der Baumhöhe zum Brusthöhendurchmesser. Der mittlere Schlankheitsgrad der herrschenden Bäume ist ein Bestandeskennwert und dient als Mass für den Pflegezustand und die Bestandesstabilität gegen Wind und Schnee (nach WT).
• [fr] coefficient d'élancement
  Rapport entre la hauteur de l'arbre et le diamètre à hauteur de poitrine. Le coefficient d'élancement moyen des arbres dominants est une caractéristique du peuplement et sert de mesure pour l'état d'entretien et la stabilité du peuplement contre le vent et la neige (selon WT).
• [it] rapporto di snellezza
  Rapporto tra l'altezza dell'albero e il diametro a petto d'uomo. Il rapporto di snellezza medio degli alberi dominanti è un parametro caratteristico del popolamento e serve per la valutazione del suo stato di cura e della sua stabilità nei confronti di vento e neve (da WT).

• The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
• The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
