Dictionary/glossary

On this page you find the translations of woody species and of terms as well as their explanations (marked with yellow background), which were used in the NFI.

  • timber (stage of stand development)

    Stages of stand development in a uniform high forest, stand with a dominant diameter at breast hight of more than 30 cm. Classified into young (31-40 cm DBH), medium (41-50 cm DBH) and old timber (>50 cm DBH).
  • [de] Baumholz (Entwicklungsstufe)
    Entwicklungsstufen im gleichförmigen Hochwald, Bestand mit einem dominanten Brusthöhendurchmesser von mehr als 30 cm. Es wird unterschieden zwischen schwachem (31-­40 cm Ddom), mittlerem (41-­50 cm Ddom) und starkem Baumholz (>50 cm Ddom).
  • [fr] futaie (stade de développement)
    Stade de développement dans la futaie régulière, peuplement avec un diamètre dominant supérieur à 30 cm. On différencie la jeune futaie (31-40 cm Ddom), la futaie moyenne (41-50 cm Ddom) et la vieille futaie (> 50 cm Ddom).
  • [it] fustaia (stadio di sviluppo)
    Stadio di sviluppo della fustaia regolare, popolamento con diametro dominante (Ddom) superiore a 30 cm. Essa viene suddivisa in fustaia giovane (31-40 cm Ddom), fustaia adulta (41-50 cm Ddom) e fustaia matura (>50cm Ddom).

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
