German-French-Italian-English dictionary of plant names and technical terms used in the NFI. Definitions are given for the terms highlighted in yellow.

• conversion

  Changing the management system of a stand by thinning and tending the available stocking. The conversion of coppice forest or coppice with standards into high forest is particularly frequent (according to WT). Less frequent is the conversion of layered into stratified high forest (conversion of selection forest), cf. transformation.

  Wechsel der Betriebsart eines Bestandes unter Verwendung der vorhandenen Bestockung mittels Durchforstung und Pflege. Besonders häufig ist die Überführung von Nieder- oder Mittelwald in Hochwald (nach WT), daneben kommt auch die Überführung von schichtigen in stufige Hochwälder vor (Plenterüberführung), siehe auch Umwandlung.

  Changement de régime d'un peuplement à l'aide d'éclaircies et de soins culturaux en utilisant le boisement existant, la conversion la plus fréquente est celle du taillis ou du taillis-sous-futaie en futaie (selon WT), on rencontre aussi celle des forêts uniformes en forêts étagées (conversion jardinatoire) , voir aussi transformation.
• [it] conversione
  Cambiamento della sistema selvicolturale di un popolamento, a partire dal soprassuolo presente, ottenuto attraverso diradamenti e cure colturali. Particolarmente frequente è la conversione da ceduo o ceduo composto a fustaia (da WT). Oltre a questo tipo di conversioni si può avere anche il passaggio da fustaia pluriplana a fustaia stratificata (trasformazione alla fustaia disetanea), vedi anche trasformazion.

• The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
• The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
