German-French-Italian-English dictionary of plant names and technical terms used in the NFI. Definitions are given for the terms highlighted in yellow.

  • forest definition

    Helps to decide when to separate forest from nonforest. In the NFI the proper criteria for the forest/nonforest distinction are minimum width, minimum percentage cover and minimum top height.

    Entscheidungsgrundlage zur Abgrenzung von Wald und Nichtwald. Im LFI sind die Kriterien Mindestbreite, minimaler Deckungsgrad und minimale Oberhöhe für den Wald-/Nichtwaldentscheid massgebend.
  • [fr] définition de la forêt
    Base de décision pour délimiter la forêt et les surfaces hors-forêt. Dans l'IFN, les trois critères largeur, degré de recouvrement et hauteur dominante minimaux sont déterminants lors de la décision forêt / hors-forêt.
  • [it] definizione di bosco
    Base decisionale per la distinzione tra bosco e non bosco. Nell'IFN i criteri di delimitazione bosco/non bosco sono la larghezza minima, il grado di copertura minimo e l'altezza dominante minima.

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
