German-French-Italian-English dictionary of plant names and technical terms used in the NFI. Definitions are given for the terms highlighted in yellow.

  • forest form

    Basic form of forest: high forest (uniform, non-uniform, selection type), coppice with standards, coppice forest and, as special forms selvas (a type of grove) and plantations. In the NFI the forest forms are used to define the forest types.
  • [de] Waldform
    Grundform des Waldes: Hochwald (gleichförmig, ungleichförmig, plenterartig), Mittelwald, Niederwald und als Spezialformen Selven und Plantagen. Die Waldformen werden im LFI für die Definition der Waldtypen verwendet.
  • [fr] forme de forêt
    Les formes fondamentales sont la futaie (régulière, irrégulière, d'aspect jardiné), le taillis-sous-futaie, le taillis et les formes spéciales de la selve et des cultures d'arbres. Dans l'IFN, ces formes servent à définir les types de forêt.
  • [it] forma di governo
    Forma di rinnovazione del bosco: comprende fustaia (regolare, irregolare, a struttura disetanea), ceduo composto, ceduo e, nelle forme particolari, selva e impianti di arboricoltura. Nell'IFN la forma di governo viene utilizzata per la definizione dei tipi forestali.

  • The German, French and Italien plant names were taken mainly from the book Die häufigsten Waldbäume der Schweiz or from the Flora Helvetica
  • The English plant names were taken form the internet (swiss web flora, PLANTS Database and Dictionary of Common Names by plantpress.com). The notations and abbreviations were taken from IPNI - The international Plant Names Index.
