‘Forests and society’ module

Forests are becoming increasingly important as recreational areas in Switzerland. For the management of recreational forests, it is essential to have information regarding the social function of the forest. In this module, knowledge is being acquired on the systematic and long-term monitoring of recreational use. The focus is on visitor frequencies in forests close to settlements, but also on the forest visitors themselves in terms of their visiting behaviour, activities, preferences and motives. Where possible, social data are linked with physical forest data from the NFI sample plots.
