Changing the management system of a stand by thinning the existing stocking. The conversion of coppice forest or coppice with standards into high forest is particularly frequent. In addition, a layered high forest may also be converted into a vertically stratified high forest (conversion to single-tree selection forest), cf. transformation.

Changement de régime d’un peuplement à l’aide d’éclaircies en utilisant le boisement existant. La conversion la plus fréquente est celle du taillis ou du taillis-sous-futaie en futaie; on rencontre aussi celle des futaies uniformes en futaies étagées (éclaircie jardinatoire). Cambiamento della sistema selvicolturale di un popolamento, a partire dal soprassuolo presente, attraverso diradamenti e cure colturali. Particolarmente frequente è la conversione da ceduo o ceduo composto a fustaia. Oltre a questo tipo di conversioni si può avere anche il passaggio da fustaia pluriplana a fustaia stratificata (trasformazione alla fustaia disetanea). Vedi anche trasformazione.
